Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the water sit in the kiosk?
Our water is constantly rotated through the filters, so it will always be fresh. In some machines it will only be there a day, in others less than 4 weeks. Most bottled water can sit in a plastic bottle for months and months. We also have remote access to the machines so we can assess water levels.
How is water3 different to other refill stations on the market?
There are many things that make water3 unique, but here are some of our favourite features:
- Innovative RFID embedded technology within our water3 bottles
- Choice of chilled still or sparkling water
- Each kiosk dispenses water3 bottles at the touch of a button
- Cashless transactions
- No infrastructure required for installation. All we need is a powerpoint!
- 42 inch LCD screen
How does water3 filter water without chemicals?
water3 uses a selection of chemical free filtration methods including:
- Micron filter
- Charcoal filter
- UV filter
- Ozone filter
How do I request a water3 kiosk near me?
Simply go to our contact page and select the “Request a Kiosk” option on the drop down menu.
Can I use my own bottle in the water3 kiosk?
Yes you can! Our machines accommodate most reusable bottle sizes and dispense varied amounts of water for specially tailored refills. If you use one of our water3 bottles you get the added benefit of bonus refills when you register, and an extra 100ml of water for free every time you fill up! Our water3 bottles measure 235mm by 68mm and hold 650ml.
Please note, extra tall bottles won’t fit in a number of our kiosks. This is to help reduce splash/wastage for our refills. If your bottle is too tall, it’s easy to get a water3 bottle for only $10, and it comes with free refills!
How do you maintain the quality of the water?
We test every batch that we process. This way we know if the water meets drinking water requirements before it goes into a kiosk. We also have a sampling program in place that ensures kiosks are consistently dispensing high quality water to our consumers.
Why is the water sometimes white or cloudy?
Occasionally you may get some water that is white or cloudy/milky. This is due to tiny air bubbles and after a minute or two these air bubbles will rise to the top and clear, leaving the water clear. This is completely harmless.
What is RFID technology?
We have embedded an RFID chip into the base of each of our water3 bottles so that you can refill with one easy swipe.
How do I care for my bottle?
Read our bottle care page for more information.
What are water3 bottles made of?
water3 bottles are made of stainless steel and 100% recyclable HDPE plastic.
Can I choose what colour water3 bottle I receive from the kiosk?
Unfortunately our machines are set to dispense bottles at random so we cannot guarantee what colour you will receive. Each colour (green, blue, white) is unique to the water3 brand, and specially designed to keep you hydrated with icy cold water on the go.
If you have any account enquiries please submit an enquiry via our contact page and one of our team will be in touch to answer your query.
Where does the water come from?
All water3 water is sourced locally and takes no longer than 30 minutes to travel from the source to water3 HQ. Our water is filtered at the source, filtered and tested at our HQ, and also filtered in the kiosk itself.
Why don’t people just drink tap water?
If everyone used a tap, there wouldn't be a need for water3. We are not trying to move people away from using a tap, we want people to move away from single use plastic bottles. water3 is a great alternative for people who want to hydrate on the go and do not have access to a tap.
Why do we use spring water and not tap water?
We use spring water in our machines to ensure we are providing the most natural product available. We don’t use any chemicals in the handling or processing of our spring water, using only U.V., ozone, fine micron filters, and charcoal filters. This keeps the natural purity of the water safe from chemicals and plastic leaching. We would like to think that in time, once we have moved enough people away from plastic bottled water, we could look at using purified tap water. At this stage though, we are trying to change people's behaviours towards plastic, and to do that we have to offer them a perceived better product than what they are using now.
Why water3 water and not plastic bottled water?
water3 was created to eliminate single use plastic and reduce the amount of plastic pollution harming our environment and wildlife. Our water3 kiosks dispense chemical free spring water, allowing you to refuse plastic, and refill with your own bottle, or one of ours.
In contrast plastic bottled water has not only been found to have a negative impact on our planet, but it has also been found to have a negative impact on the human body. Plastic bottles contain harmful chemicals that can cause a number of short and long term health problems for consumers.
What makes water3 a social enterprise?
water3 is a true social enterprise that is campaigning for environmental change through innovation. Our aim is to eliminate the need for single use plastic water bottles, utilising revenue to fund local clean up initiatives, such as the Whitsundays Eco Barge, Airlie Beach Turtle Rescue Centre, and many more. We are passionate about creating change through education, and are committed to starting a global movement for more conscious, sustainable, plastic-free living to save our planet.
Do you charge GST on water3 refills and bottles?
We only charge GST on sparkling water and empty water3 bottles dispensed from the machine. This charge is due to GST laws, however still water is exempt from GST.
Are there any bank charges when I pay at the machine?
If you are using your credit/debit card to make a payment at a water3 kiosk there is a charge of 10 cents that we pass on. We actually absorb a greater amount in the sale price, which is why it’s better for you, for us, and for our environmental outcomes if you buy a water3 bottle, and top up with credit (where we don’t pass on the bank fees).
